Balmain Sailing Club Cruising Division, in conjunction with Balmain Sailing Club would like to send a fleet to the Heaven Can Wait 24 Hour Race at Lake Macquarie.
The Heaven Can Wait 24 Hour Race was conceived and promoted by Lake Macquarie resident, keen sailor and cancer survivor Shaun Lewicki as a major annual sailing event on the lake, to promote sailing in the Lake Macquarie/Newcastle/Hunter region – and to raise funds for cancer research.
The race will start and finish adjacent to Rafferty's Resort at the south-eastern end of the lake.
The Course will be a distance of approximately 30 Nm per lap. In addition to the 24 hour race, there will be a "one-lap dash" for those boats who do not wish to race for a full 24 hours.
To encourage yachts from outside of Lake Macquarie to participate, temporary moorings will be put in place at Rafferty's, allowing boats to safely moor for a week or two before the race, and for a period following the race.
Boats participating in the 24 hour race will be required to have a Category 5N (night sailing) safety certificate, while those competing in the "one-lap dash" will be required to have a Category 7 certificate.
We anticipate that we will have members with boats needing crew that wish to participate and members without boats wanting to crew for others.
Registering your interest now will assist BSCCD in coordinating a fleet for the passage/race if necessary and assist you in finding crew if needed. Details of Crew wishing to participate are provided below for boat owners to initiate contact and make their own arrangements with the crew.
On receipt of your registration, you will be added to the list below.
Please Note: This is a registration of interest only for BSCCD organisational purposes. An official entry form, available in the Notice of Race, must be completed to register for this event. |
